What Painting in Martinsburg Actually Involves

Martinsburg is the largest city in the Eastern Panhandle, and it splits cleanly into two kinds of painting job. Downtown holds Victorian and Federal houses with deep trim detail, porch woodwork and painted brick — slow, careful work where the prep and the cut-in are the whole job. North of town, Spring Mills and Falling Waters are newer subdivisions with vinyl and fibre cement siding that need a completely different approach. Berkeley County also runs slightly cooler than Winchester with more freeze-thaw cycles through the winter, and freeze-thaw is what finds every gap in a rushed prep job.

Martinsburg is served by our Winchester office, which has 16 Google reviews averaging 4.75 stars.

Jeff and the team are true professionals. If you're looking for a painter, look no further. Jeff and the team arrived on site exactly on time and surveyed the project and immediately got to work placing plastic and drop cloths. The team members are very courteous and friendly and go out of their way to be sure you are satisfied. Their work is impeccable. When finished, they cleaned up the work area and left everything better than when they arrived.

Jeff and his guys did a fantastic job of painting the exterior of our house in Winchester, Virginia. The house itself is 4 different colors (house siding, some fish scale siding on a peak, trim, and concrete foundation all different)… They spent the time to clean and prep (most of a week) and then another week to paint (with upwards of 5 guys working every day).

Common Questions — Painting in Martinsburg

Do you paint in West Virginia as well as Virginia?

Yes. Martinsburg, Falling Waters, Inwood and Charles Town are all inside our regular service area, run out of our Winchester office about forty minutes away. We are licensed and insured, and we carry that coverage across the state line.

What makes painting a downtown Martinsburg house harder?

Victorian and Federal houses carry far more linear feet of trim than a modern build — brackets, spindles, window casing, porch detail — and most of it has been painted many times over. That means scraping, sanding and spot-priming before a finish coat, and a lot of brush work that cannot be sprayed. It is slower work, but it is the reason those houses still look right.

Does the freeze-thaw cycle affect exterior painting here?

It does. Berkeley County runs slightly cooler than Winchester and cycles above and below freezing more often through the winter. Water gets into any gap left by poor prep, freezes, expands and lifts the film. That is why we caulk, prime bare wood and schedule exterior work inside the temperature window rather than pushing into the cold.
